IRC?
« on: 12. June 2009, 06:18:11 »
Ey guys. Been going around some, and people start to ask me, they would like to join playing Mannis server but they wonder if you have an IRC channel.  I asked gpoint, and I think you don't, he didn't really know whats an IRC.
I do not know how to explain that, it's like a chat but for games network, it's really nice, easy to use and a big gamer "database" let's say. So I wonder, if there was an IRC for Mannis? You guys planning to do something like that? If not, I could, If I would get a "yes" from the roots', admins or something I could take care of it and get us a channel. It an easy way to get ton of good players interested with funhouse or the RP, the channel on #quakenet is for free, and it's just a free chat, lots of options. Any, could anyone give me a hand here and explain what is it better?
You use a client, for example "mirc":

"mIRC is a full featured Internet Relay Chat client for Windows that can be used to communicate, share, play or work with others on IRC networks around the world, either in multi-user group conferences or in one-to-one private discussions.

It has a clean, practical interface that is highly configurable and supports features such as buddy lists, file transfers, multi-server connections, SSL encryption, proxy support, UTF-8 display, customizable sounds, spoken messages, tray notifications, message logging, and more.

mIRC also has a powerful scripting language that can be used both to automate mIRC and to create applications that perform a wide range of functions from network communications to playing games."

So, Ive been just curious, if you got an IRC. Any answers? I think it would do good for  the community. Cheers.

What's with Manni's Steam-group-chat / Friendlist / Teamspeak?

What's with Manni's Steam-group-chat / Friendlist / Teamspeak?

"0 people in group-chat", yeah, friend list ok for 1-1 speech, Teamspeak is for mic speak.... anyway, I just gave this idea, as it is live-chat, few people asked me for it, but didn't know what to answer, and people that need member help can get it in the channel. It is like a live feed for them, and can get you some more attention. If you don't want it, then fine, but I say just give it a try.

Get some IRC client, connect to QuakeNet random server, and then /join #mannisfunhouse
If you don't like it, then just check it out, tell me you don't like it, I will delete it and never mention it again. What I mean is just check the IRC out, it is very useful.

EDIT: Let's see what the community says, maybe they will like the idea?

Does it matter? What do you think of the idea Avenger. It was supposed to be a question, then it happened to be a suggestion. So, Avenger, any feedback?

I don't know! It's not my problem if nobody is using the group chat or teamspeak... and you can create your own group chat too without using the Manni-Group-chat! I think this IRC is almost the same like X-fire or ICQ or MSN... i think it's useless but ok everybody has his own opinion! :)

and... i have no idea of this stuff! xD

In xfire you have to add them and invite them to rooms, in mIRC you just setup channel and all kind of people come there. No adding friends or having to invite anyone

It's an open environment... people come in, ask the question, or have a chat and then leave. It doesn't lag you, you can run it all the time in the background tbh, as it is text based (no emoticons and other useless sh*t).

Okay okay.. This is the best idea I never heard. A IRC channel would make the community really better, like maydie said alerady. Really a nice idea Witto. Hope we have it soon! :D

It's up already :)
QuakeNet, #mannisfunhouse ... I need 3 people on it to get the Q-bot.

EDIT: We've got the Q bot, so if anyone wants to check out the channel, please feel free to do so. Still waiting for root answer on this, should I continue or drop the IRC idea....

I know the mirc, been using mirc_upp for long time, but i haven't used it for a few months now, because i find it a waste of my time imo. Now, I'm not saying the bad thing about it, but you may try it, but don't expect the lots of people can stay and idle there.

Give it a try then :)
