Nice advertising  :D
I already downloaded and installed the new beta, It's looking very similar to Windows vista, the start menu is the same and I miss the option to change it back to the classic start menu like in Win XP, because I don't like the vista one  :-[
The performance is better as far as I have seen, and I think in the final version it will be even better. But the explorer crashed for me once
and I had to reboot to make it work again... but I guess that's just a beta bug, uhm feature  8)l
I'm looking forward that this will be better than our loved Vista.
I heard a new feature will be that you can use your GPU (Graphics card processor) as CPU, as nowadays gfx cards are getting faster and faster.

Yeah its awesome but i love the vista apereance but Nothing crashed in my beta until now and the feature of that GPU its awesome! I readed somewhere that microsoft added one program in control pannel that can repair or fix any file  so we wont need to reformat windows 7 if its infected with viruses! :)  Microsoft finally released a good windows! in my xp sometimes i was crashing when i was finishing puzzles :( but it doesn't crash anymore now thanks to windows 7 :)

I'm also running Windows 7 already, seems to work faster than Vista and the boot time really is quite short. I did a few quick benchs with scource SDK base on my older laptop, and its still nowhere near as fast as XP I'm afraid. But this will probably not really matter on a fast desktop with new hardware and drivers optimized for vista, its just a bit disapointing, because form what I had heard I was supposed to run quite well on slower hardware.
I'll do some test with comsumption and battery life soon. to see it theres any difference there.
Ahh well its beta, and better than Vista so I'll try it for a while.
Also even though the UI is again different, I seem to get along with it far better than with vista's.

I'm running W7 on VMware atm and I will give it the full install on my laptop this week, and hopefully it will makes the major difference on between W7 and Vista.

I'm looking forward to hear about your test, Mark :)

I already got in touch with a new repair utility that tried to repair my windows after a bad boot. Took me too long and I restarted my PC  ;D

I tried to install the ATI driver for Vista, and it crashed for me with a Bluescreen.
And as long as I don't have a good driver for my graphic card it's senseless to me to use Windows 7 for gaming :)
Not to meantion that this is the first beta... I guess there will be at least two more betas as Windows 7 won't be released before 2010  8)
A beta is more for showing its features, than using it productive or for performance tests.

Update:

I've found a beta driver for ATI graphic cards here:

I haven't had any problem with getting grapics drivers for my ATI card it was downloaded automatically via Windows Update, but as I mentioned its from an aging Laptop and its a workstation graphics card, so the drivers will probably never get any better. The perfromance of the scource engine is virtually the same as on Server 2008: 57 fps compared to 65 fps on Win XP. I think the performance difference on a high end desktop is probably negible though.

I haven't tried it on my desktop yet which has a new ATI Graphics card, so thanks for the link :D

You are right, I just booted up Windows 7 and installed the graphic driver from windows update, and it's working fine :)
I think the driver from the ati site doesn't work anyway for my X1950 pro graphic card.
So far windows 7 is working fine for me now, and I'm gonna use it for a while, as long there aren't any problems.  ;)

yeah good old x1950pro, I've still got one laying around, nice card.
And your right the link only mentions cards down to the hd2000 series.

I'll install it in few days time and see how it works with a hd4850.

I've fully configured my vista now, installed all drivers and most of the programs I need successfully, and I have to say it's running all well, even the games are running smoothly without
any problems and 24 ping on my server  :D Looks like this beta is pretty stable already.

I'll take it back! ;D

Just right after the copying files and restart, it instantly recognize my Intel WiFi 4965AGN wireless card, and ATI x1400 mobility and configures it all out by itself, and finishes the install.

After the setup finishes, i was required to update just 5 drivers,  ( includes the manual installation on StigmaTel HD audio, and few other Dell Inspiron apps. )

After the final restart, it's humming beautiful, and I'm pretty happy to keep it until August ( or the first RTM release  ), and considering very seriously on purchasing the retail Windows 7 license. :D

No more OEM fuckers.

Gentlemen, give Windows 7 a try! Just make sure you have USB flash drive contains the wireless and/or wired drivers from Vista ( NOT XP ) for W7, just in case it don't recognize the default network drivers that comes with W7. ( If you have Intel WiFi 4965AGN or older card, you are in instantly luck! )
